Background

  BIOGRAPHY    lin xinyi’s earliest memory of having a camera pointed in her direction dates back to when she was just eight years old. while accompanying her parents on one of her mother’s overseas business trips to seoul, she’d caught the attention of a children’s casting scout who stopped them on the sidewalk and asked whether they’d be interested in letting her participate in a small test shoot.initially, her parents hesitated, but when xinyi looked up at them, eyes bright and curious at the presentation of this new opportunity, they relented, chalking it up to just another fun little story they’d one day reminisce about back home. she even got to keep some of her favorite pictures afterwards.that “fun little story” rapidly snowballed into a string of editorial and commercial campaigns, each one opening more doors to more opportunities as her portfolio began to expand. before long, those occasional business trips to seoul became regular, and eventually, the city had become her second home.however, with heightened opportunities came heightened expectations. between juggling schoolwork and constant flights to and from korea, xinyi learned that the most beautiful photographs very rarely came without long hours, constant direction, constructive criticism, and a never ending expectation to always improve upon something for the next shoot. she’d become used to auditions that led nowhere, projects that demanded perfection, and an infinite stream of opinions about her appearance and perceived personality.those opinions had reinforced this quiet, aching desire within her to be appreciated more for who she is rather than the beauty she presents, and instead of allowing herself to become disillusioned by the industry, xinyi decided that the only logical next step was to carve out pieces of herself that would belong to no one else. whether it was through painting, thrifting for vintage clothing, or hand writing sweet messages to her friends, she kept her passions close and herself even closer.
